Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3, the curriculum is broad and balanced for all our students. Students study a range of subjects including English, Maths and Science. Beyond this core, Geography, History and Religious Education are taught as separate humanities to all students. Drama, Art and Music comprise the Creative and Expressive curriculum. French and Spanish are learnt by students throughout the Key Stage. Technology is taught through a carousel of different aspects; electronics, food technology, resistant materials, systems and control and graphical products. We offer ICT, Citizenship, PSHE and PE throughout the Key Stage.
Q. How are students grouped for teaching?
A. Students are divided into two equal ability groups in each year. These groups are then set by ability in English, Maths, Science, Modern Languages and PE. All other subjects are taught in mixed ability groups.
Q. Which modern foreign languages do they learn?
A. French and Spanish are our core languages.
Q. What is PSHE?
A. Personal, Social and Health Education covers issues such as:
- Careers education

- Social skills
- Study skills
- Substance abuse
Q. What about sex education?
A. The teaching of human growth and reproduction is taught in science in accordance with the National Curriculum. Sex education in PSHE is considered within moral and family contexts. The learning process needs a strong partnership between school and home. Parents will be kept informed of the sex education programme and may exercise their right to withdraw their child.
Q. What are the arrangements for collective worship and RE?
A. Students attend House assemblies every second week and Year assemblies once each half-term. At all other times, for each form, the morning begins with a thought for the day. A parent who wishes to withdraw a student from collective worship or RE lesson may contact the Head of House.
